“A Hard Life” represents pop culture inside the world of Celebrated Destruction of Paradise. It is shiny, catchy, and easy to move to, but underneath it is something much darker: the pressure to become what the powers that be want you to be.

It is about wanting to fit into a mold that was crafted for you. Wanting to be accepted. Wanting to survive. Wanting to play the part well enough that maybe life gets a little easier.

That is one of the things I love about this song. It feels fun, but it is not empty!
