We've been hard at work trying to finish our album in the studio and are getting so excited about where we're heading!
Our next single, “Danger,” comes out on July 31st, and I wanted to give you an exclusive first look and tell you a little more about where it fits into the story of Celebrated Destruction of Paradise.
“Danger” is Chapter 3 of the album, which we’re calling “Indoctrination.”
At this point in the story, our main character has already been captured by the State. She’s strapped to a chair in a dark room with her eyes forced open while screens all around her replay the Leader’s speeches over and over again.
At the same time, a glowing serum is being pumped into her body while government scientists watch from behind mirrored glass.
The whole purpose is to confuse her sense of pleasure and pain—to make something terrifying begin to feel comforting.
That’s where the lyric comes from:
“Danger, I’m in danger
Might be surprising, but I’m feeling good.”
To me, that line really sums up the entire song.
“Danger” is about knowing something is bad for you and still being drawn to it. It’s about manipulation that feels like love, poison that feels like medicine, and control that becomes so deeply ingrained that you start believing it was your choice all along.
“My head is humming from all the noise
You fill me up, baby, with your poison.”
In the bigger storyline, the State has already captured her body ("You've Lost Your Power"). Now they’re trying to take her mind.
They need her to believe the propaganda because they eventually plan to turn her into a symbol for the very system that imprisoned her. In the chapters that follow, she’ll be placed in front of cameras, dressed up, told to smile, and forced to perform for an audience that has no idea what’s really happening behind the scenes.
“Danger” is the beginning of that transformation.
But even with all the noise, chemicals, screens, and manipulation, there is still a part of her that knows something isn’t right.
She knows she’s in danger.
She just can’t understand why it feels so good.
